Big Pine Trout Farm (2009/6/30)
in
Sports & Recreation
Big Pine Trout Farm Big Pine Trout Farm is nestled in the mountains of Craig County, just 25 miles northwest of Roanoke, Virginia. The stream is stocked daily with rainbow, golden and brook trout. The stream is a swift, challenging, natural, mountain stream with slippery rocks. Experienced fishermen will frequently hook into 15 or 20 trout in the course of the day. The trout Big Pine Trout Farm stocks are hard fighting fish and when placed in a swift stream are difficult to bring to the surface. We have an expert fisherman, who comes and goes, on the premises and he will be glad to answer your questions and give pointers on "how to fish."

Sports & Recreation
The Blue Ridge Soaring Society is a club operation located near New Castle, Virginia in scenic Craig County. The area is surrounded by the Jefferson National Forest, where the Appalachian Trail stretches through the wilderness of Virginia The mountain ridges running through the area provide great ridge flights for long cross country flights. When weather conditions permit, wave flights are also possible. The BRSS has a high altitude waiver window, allowing for flights up to 23,000 feet. Every September, the BRSS hosts the Region 4 South contest. One of the most notable contests was in 1990, when 17 of the 25 pilots completed a 1000 km task, covering ridges in 4 states.
